This is a much loved recipe at Halloween by both Adults and children alike. Don’t forget to add the fun items of a ring, cloth/ rag, stick and pea. To find out what these represent, see end of recipe.

Serves 10

Ingredients
1 cup of strong cold tea
6oz/180g brown sugar
9oz/250g plain flour
1lb/450g of mixed dried fruit
Candied peel
1 egg lightly beaten
˝ level teaspoon of bread soda
2lb loaf tin

Method
Put tea, sugar, mixed dried fruit and candied peel in a bowl with the cold tea, cover and allow to soak overnight
Pre-heat the oven to 180C/350F/Gas Mark 4
Grease a 2lb loaf tin
Add the lightly beaten egg to the fruit mixture
Sieve the flour and bread soda together and fold into the mixture
Stir-in fun items!
Turn into the prepared tin
Place in the pre-heated oven and bake for 1 ˝ hours.
Cool on a wire tray and slice when ready.

To Serve
Serve with a freshly brewed cup of tea and butter. Delicious !
