Hello and Welcome to our Guild !

This year, 2010, sees the ICA celebrating its Centenary - 100 years during which thousands of women have enjoyed the friendship and support of the ICA and the educational and recreational opportunities at our Centre for Life Long Learning, An Grianán, in Termonfeckin, Co Louth.

During our Centenary, we are celebrating our history and continued relevance to thousands of women. As we celebrate our past, we are also planning for our future, so that many more women will enjoy the friendship, support and opportunities offered by being a member of the ICA. To find out about our Centenary celebrations, please click on '2010 Centenary Celebrations' on this website.

The ICA (the Irish Countrywomen’s Association), which is the largest women’s organisation in Ireland, was founded in 1910 and the ICA Gormanston Guild in Co Meath, formed by Mrs Josephine Gormley and sixteen like minded ladies in April 1946, is one of the oldest Guilds in the country. Our membership consists of women of all ages from all walks of life. The Gormanston Guild is made up of a group of women from Co Meath who currently meet once a month in the Parish Rooms in Julianstown (our normal meeting place is the Stamullen Parish Rooms but they are currently being renovated) to discuss arts and crafts, chat, learn, and socialise. We range in age from our thirties to our eighties and are always keen to welcome new members to our Guild. There has been a large increase in the population of Gormanston, Stamullen and surrounding areas in recent years, with both families and singletons moving to these areas both from within Ireland and from other countries. The Guild would like to invite you to join us.

Feel free to contact us by popping into a Guild meeting. We hold our meetings the first Thursday of every month at 8.00 p.m. currently in the Parish Rooms in Julianstown (This is our current temporary venue while the Parish Rooms in Stamullen are been renovated) to see what we’re all about or send us an e-mail at info@icagormanston.ie or call us on 087 7973161. Or better still, why not become our latest member today become our latest member today?

Our next meeting of the Guild will be for the Guild's Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Thursday, 7th April in the Stamullen Parish Rooms.at 8.00 p.m. This meeting is open to members only.

Looking for something to do during the upcoming summer months? Now is the ideal time to join us. The Guild meets on a monthly basis on the first Thursday of every month in the Stammullen Parish Rooms in Co Meath.
If you are new to the area or indeed an existing member of the community and would like to make new friends and share or develop a new hobby or indeed meet our guest speakers, feel free to drop by on the night.

Our speaker in November was Anne Doyle. Anne is a qualified CBAI bridge teacher who, in one hour, showed everyone that they too can learn the wonderful game of bridge. This is a leisure activity which offers a mix of mental stimulation and social interaction few other games can offer. This was very much enjoyed by all.

We invite a varied and eclectic mix of guest speakers to our meetings to talk and/or demonstrate on their area of expertise. More recently these included talks on arts and crafts which involved a demo on the wonderful craft of felt making by well known felter Mel Bradley, homeopathy, reflexology, gourmet cuisine, gardening, antiques, personal development, image consultancy as well as a visit from well known author and former news broadcaster, Deirdre Purcell. We also enjoyed a recent visit to Dáil Eireann, our annual summer day trip last June which saw us travelling to the Florence Court House and Gardens in Co Fermanagh (we're busy planning our day trip for this year!), our annual Irish night with music and song from Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Eireann and the Séamus Ennis Cultural Centre’s musicians. Other activities included the ‘Big Knit’ to raise funds for the elderly in Ireland, the annual garden party and gala concert and buffet, both at An Grianán (the ICA Centre for Life Long Learning in Termonfeckin, Co Louth), a Christmas night out in Romanza’s in downtown Drogheda and, of course, our annual Kris Krindle event in the Parish rooms.

Each month, at our Guild meetings, each Tea Group (Beeches, Cedars and Elms) takes its turn in providing the hospitality for the evening and spoil us with delectable treats. This gives our members the opportunity to catch up with each other over a nice relaxing cup of tea before heading home for the night.

On joining, you’ll always be sure of a warm welcome - a Cead Míle Fáilte on arrival !
